Mammoth Eyes — Spiral
A more experimental interpretation of ancestral Arctic snow goggles. Oval mammoth ivory lenses preserve the narrow horizontal slits, while the surrounding construction moves further into contemporary sculptural eyewear.
Made by hand to order. Delivery is arranged with you personally after your order.
- Material
- Hand-carved fossil mammoth ivory set in a brass frame, finished with leather details. The mammoth tusk comes from the permafrost of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), where it has been preserved in the frozen ground for tens of thousands of years. As the ground naturally thaws and erodes during the Arctic summer, ancient tusks can become exposed and recovered from the land.
- Size
- Comfortable and balanced fit, shaped to sit naturally on the face, adjustable.
- Craftsmanship
- Each mammoth ivory lens is individually carved, shaped and finished by hand. The spiral metal elements are formed by hand, making the construction itself part of the design. Natural variations in the mammoth ivory remain visible, making every element of the piece unique.
- Characteristics
- A sculptural collector piece combining ancient material with an experimental metal structure. The spiral details introduce movement around the face, while the horizontal slits maintain the connection to ancestral Arctic eye protection. Not designed for winter protection.
Spiral explores movement, continuity and transformation — bringing an ancient material into a completely new form while keeping traces of the original goggles visible. Limited Drop Part of Mammoth Eyes, a limited series of five individually handcrafted pieces. Each pair has its own form and details and will not be reproduced in exactly the same way.
Each piece comes in its own handcrafted leather case with the URSUUNA logo, made to protect and preserve the piece as a limited artifact.
